"The world's ruling structure has been reset. The future of chaos awaits! " - Hououin Kyouma

To say that I am a passionate entrepreneur only works if you make sure to add that I am known to be a bit of mad scientist as well. People would laugh when I told them I would change the shipping industry for good and make it possible for everyone to have what they really wanted: TRANSPARENCY on everything. Now, look! We have grown this wild idea into the fastest growing company in the United States.

So here is your chance - Want to talk to me about what it is like to be a CTO and co-founder of a truly successful startup? Want me to speak at your conference, do your podcast, or do a skype interview? Sure! I have been working for years straight to grow the company and now I want to talk about how I am doing just such with you. All the real questions you want ask about how hard it is, what it really takes... the money, the time, the emotional hardship, being a leader, not knowing anything, failing, succeeding from someone that is living the life day-to-day.

Or maybe you want to share your love of anime, JRPGS, or talk for hours about nerdy toys you grew up in childhood that you still love. I know I do! Crypto, blockchain, or neurology and a bit of lab research is more your speed? Not a problem, I got you covered. Sometimes though, you want to talk about about the philosophical and psychological underpinnings of how humans process thought, emotions, and generally deal with living their best life, okay let's do that too! Whatever you are passionate about let's shine some light on what is wonderful in your life... because tinkering and connecting is what it is all about. Reach out, let's learn something awesome together!

The adventure is just beginning. Would you like to come along?

Dr. Bernard J. Baars

Bernard J. Baars, Ph.D. is Affiliated Fellow in Theoretical Neurobiology at the Neurosciences Institute in La Jolla, CA.

Bernie is a cognitive scientist specializing in conscious and unconscious brain functions, voluntary control, and concepts of self. These common sense ideas have long been difficult to study in the biobehavioral sciences, but have returned to the forefront in recent decades. He is best known for his book, A Cognitive Theory of Consciousness (1988) in which he develops an integrative theory called Global Workspace Theory (GWT) as a model for conscious and unconscious processes in the human brain.

GWT continues to be developed, in collaboration with Professor. Stan Franklin of the University of Memphis, Professor Murray Shanahan of Imperial College, London, and scientists working in the Neural Darwinism tradition of Gerald A. Edelman at the Neurosciences Institute. A number of neuroscientists are advancing the theory from their own perspectives, notably Professor Stan Dehaene and his research group in Paris. A popular account of GWT appeared in 1997, called In the Theater of Consciousness: the Workspace of the Mind, from Oxford University Press (1997; translated into German and Japanese).

Bernie cofounded the journal Consciousness & Cognition together with William P. Banks, published by Academic Press/Elsevier, and was the first president of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness. ASSC is still the sole scientific organization dedicated to the empirical study and understanding of consciousness and related issues. Both Consciousness & Cognition and ASSC have helped to expand the accepted reach of consciousness science to a large number of topics, including such fields as animal consciousness.

Bernie is also a founder and editor of the web bulletin Science and Consciousness Review, along with Thomas Ramsoy and others. SCR aims to make the fast-growing scientific literature available to a wider web audience.

He recently developed teaching materials for a web-based coursethrough the University of Arizona Center for Consciousness Studies. He has also edited a college textbook, together with Nicole M. Gage, called Cognition, Brain, and Consciousness: Introduction to Cognitive Neuroscience. (Elsevier/Academic Press, 2007).

Bernie authored The Cognitive Revolution in Psychology, editedExperimental Slips and Human Error: Exploring the Architecture of Volition (Cognition and Language: A Series in Psycholinguistics), and coedited Essential Sources in the Scientific Study of Consciousness

His papers include An architectural model of conscious and unconscious brain functions: Global Workspace Theory and IDA,How conscious experience and working memory interactThe conscious access hypothesis: origins and recent evidenceApplying Global Workspace Theory to the Frame ProblemBrain, conscious experience and the observing self, and Global Workspace Theory: A Rigorous Scientific Theory of Consciousness

With a background in statistical data analysis, project management and administration he is ideally placed to oversee the project and help the various team members with the various tasks and goals the team has to complete. His main role as project lead is to organize research data, administration, project management solutions, advocacy and networking.

Working in research and in particular the field of regenerative medicine demands an ability to respond quickly and efficiently to changing situations. Whilst not from a research background per se his previous experience working as a manager in real time traffic control has given him the experience and ability to remain calm under pressure and help the team achieve its aims. His decades of experience in statistical data analysis, administration and planning gives him the ability to strategically plan and organize the various tasks the team must complete and help drive the project forward to meet deadlines and goals.

As an active longevity advocate he has a excellent knowledge of the regenerative medicine field that ranges from pharmaceutical sourcing, lab planning and costing to research and technology. Part of his role is contacting drug suppliers, animal breeders and other labs as part of the ongoing development of the project.

I represent Optimum Health a non government organization in Russia. My organization is supporting the development of the technologies to understand and potentially address the aging process and age-related diseases. I have been a longevity activist and advocate since 2013 when I started to hold educational events to make new evidence-based methods of healthy life extension more popular.

I am the co-author of the book “Aging prevention for all” which was recently issued in Russian and the book is being currently translated into several languages. You can download a copy of the Russian language version here if you would like to read more about evidence-based life extension methods.

I am an Honorary Member of the International Longevity Alliance (ILA), where I am responsible for the development of organizational processes and tools. I helped to develop the new ILA website and I am proud to be a part of the MMTP. My main role in the group is directing our IT team and I also help with networking and promotion activities.

Previously I worked in the pharmaceutical industry and the pharmaceutical advertisement sector, but I understood that it is more important to support fundamental science and medical innovations to get new therapies faster. My experience in the industry has given me valuable insights into how the MMTP can succeed and I use this knowledge to support the project.

I perceive aging as the number one problem, because it is the root of most major pathology like cancer, type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart disease, Alzheimer's, arthritis, visual impairment and others. I believe that if we address aging decline and develop treatments to slow it down, counteract to it and eventually reverse then we will remove many health problems at once.

Helping people to obtain more years of healthy life is a worthy goal isn’t it?

About Peter Voss

Peter Voss is Founder and CEO, Adaptive Artificial Intelligence Inc. He is an entrepreneur with a background in electronics, computer systems, business, and technical software. He is also concerned with the intersection between artificial intelligence software and the human condition as conceived by cognitive science, philosophy, psychology, and ethics. Since the early 1990’s he has been researching and developing artificial general intelligence, founding Adaptive A.I. Inc. in December, 2001 with the goal of developing a commercially viable general-purpose AI engine.

Born in Germany, he moved at age 12 to South Africa. He worked in manufacturing and testing of diesel power generators, and the design and production of large static inverters. He started the company Electronic Designs in 1979 to custom build microprocessor-controlled systems for industrial applications. A year later, he started a computer systems company to provide turnkey solutions to medium sized businesses. After 13 years he took the company public in 1987, employing a staff of 400. He sold the company in 1992, and moved to the United States in 1995.

He believes that integrating insights from the following areas of cognitive science are crucial for rapid progress in Artificial Intelligence:

  • Philosophy/ epistemology — understanding the true nature of knowledge.
  • Cognitive psychology (including developmental & psychometric) for analysis of cognition — and especially — general conceptual intelligence.
  • Computer science — self-modifying systems, combining new connectionist pattern manipulation techniques with “traditional” AI engineering.
His other big passion is for exploring what he calls Optimal Living: Maximizing both the quantity & quality of life. He sees personal responsibility and optimizing knowledge acquisition as key. Specific interests include:
  • Rationality, as a means for knowledge. He’s largely sympathetic to the philosophy of Objectivism, and has done quite a bit of work on developing a rational approach to (personal & social) ethics.
  • Health (quality): physical, financial, cognitive, and emotional (passions, meaningful relationships, appreciation of art, etc.). Psychology: IQ & EQ.
  • Longevity (quantity): general research, CRON (calorie restriction), and cryonics.
  • Environment: economic, social, and political systems conducive to Optimal Living.
These interests logically lead to an interest in Futurism, in technology for improving life — overcoming limits to personal growth & improvement. The transhumanist philosophy of Extropianism best embodies this quest. Specific technologies that seem to hold most promise include AI, Nanotechnology, and various health & longevity approaches mentioned above.

Peter authored Essentials of General Intelligence: The direct path to AGI, Calorie Poisoning: Civilization’s Exploding Killer Disease, True Morality – Rational Principles for Optimal Living, The Nature of Freewill, Advanced Intelligence: SI, IA, and the Global Brain, Why Machines will become Hyper-Intelligent before Humans do, SIAI’s Guidelines for building “Friendly” AI, Metaphysics — it’s simpler than you think, De-scription versus Pre-scription — and other Ethical Confusions, Longevity — Major Factors Determining Life-Span, and Extropy NOW!

Synopsis

[View Crash, Boom, Pop! here.]

Economics is full of BS -- but there is an alternative. Bank bailouts, quantitative easing, housing bubbles, austerity, etc. - are all economic policies putting most of us in the poorhouse. You can fight back...but how? Knowledge is power! This series is all about common sense, humor and great illustrations. It's 100% bull free.

Too many of us are living paycheck to paycheck. Income inequality is a worldwide problem. Students are graduating with record debts. Trillion dollar wars are charged to the national credit card of debt. We’re inheriting economies in crisis, with endless money printing, dismal job opportunities, sky high tuition fees and a housing market no one can afford.

These are baffling questions for many...including actual economists. Yes, that’s right. Much of what economists actually believe - and teach in their incredibly boring textbooks - is wrong.

As a team with a background in finance, education and economics, we read a copious amount of books that cut through the confusion: Steve Keen’s “Debunking Economics”, Ann Pettifor’s "Just Money - How to Break the Despotic Power of Finance" and Ha-Joon Chang's "23 Things They Don't Tell You About Capitalism", just to name a few. With the help of our advisor and friend Steve Keen, we can now share what we’ve learned.

It is a comprehensive, yet simply written Guide, avoiding jargon, to all areas, treatment, theories, background and day-to-day practical tips covering the entire subject of Autism including Asperger’s. It uncovers its hidden history and includes many famous examples of Autistic and Asperger’s people. It is also full of anecdotes and feelings from the author’s professional and deeply personal experiences as an Autistic himself. This is the easy-to-read, yet deeply inquiring pocket book for anyone affected by, giving care to or diagnosed with an Autism condition, more, than that…..It is not another dry, long, boring academic  drudge, it’s a cracking good read. Being a writer and practitioner specializing in Autism is one thing, only someone who lives it truly knows what it’s like- this isn't academic theory or clinical observation- this is how it lives!

Being from a family with a history of Autism meant it has always been a part of my “normal” life and brings a radical new voice to its understanding and implication while lending a uniquely powerful and sharply different perspective to assessing and providing a high quality of educational and life experience for affected people, whether children, adults in the workplace or seniors- each group has their own particular viewpoint and needs. Autism is for life-and is seldom understood that way by society.

John T. Harvey has been a Professor of Economics at Texas Christian University since 1987, after earning his Ph.D. in Economics that year from the University of Tennessee. He specializes in international economics (particularly exchange rates), macroeconomics, history of economics, and contemporary schools of thought. Dr. Harvey's work combines analyses rooted in the scholarly traditions of John Maynard Keynes and Thorstein Veblen with that of modern psychology to produce a set of new theories to explain international monetary economics, including not only exchange rates but also world financial crises.

Dr. Harvey has published over thirty refereed publications, edited two volumes, and received a number of teaching awards. In 2010, Dr. Harvey published a book titled Currencies, Capital Flows and Crises (Routledge), which presented a Post-Keynesian explanation of exchange rate determination based on the premise that it is financial capital flows and not international trade that represents the driving force behind currency movements.

Dr. Harvey has previously served as chair of the TCU Department of Economics, as well as Executive Director of the International Confederation of Associations for Pluralism in Economics. He is Co-editor of the World Economic Review and a member of the board of directors of the Association for Evolutionary Economics, as well as the editorial boards of the American Review of Political Economy, the Critique of Political Economy, the Encyclopedia of Political Economy, the Journal of Economics Issues, and the Social Science Journal.

Dr. Harvey currently writes an economics blog for Forbes called Pragmatic Economics, which offers economic commentary in a manner understandable to the general public, and can also be followed on Twitter. In this podcast I read Death is Wrong by Gennady Stolyarov II. A number of people have recommend or requested I record myself reading. Enjoy.

From the book's Amazon page:

If you have ever asked, "Why do people have to die?" then this book is for you. The answer is that no, death is not necessary, inevitable, or good. In fact, death is wrong. Death is the enemy of us all, to be fought with medicine, science, and technology. This book introduces you to the greatest, most challenging, most revolutionary movement to radically extend human lifespans so that you might not have to die at all. You will learn about some amazingly long-lived plants and animals, recent scientific discoveries that point the way toward lengthening lifespans in humans, and simple, powerful arguments that can overcome the common excuses for death. If you have ever thought that death is unjust and should be defeated, you are not alone. Read this book, and become part of the most important quest in human history. This book was written by the philosopher and futurist Gennady Stolyarov II and illustrated by the artist Wendy Stolyarov. It is here to show you that, no matter who you are and what you can do, there is always a way for you to help in humanity’s struggle against death. "I thought the book was fun to read and important in what it tries to accomplish." - Zoltan Istvan, Psychology Today

Here I speak with the beloved father figure of the Foundations of Logic about paradoxes and his budding organization. From their website

Welcome to the Foundations of Logic!  In its present form, the Foundation is an umbrella over many Facebook groups dedicated to the idea that when you bring a large enough variety of diverse individuals together amazing things can happen!  The Foundation is a kind of loosely organized chaos and we want to keep it that way!  If you're new to the Foundation, we ask that you join the original Foundations of Logic Facebook group --the place where it all began.  The Foundation is alive and constantly changing, so make sure to check the site often for the latest developments.

Founded by Sigurd Vojnov and ran by volunteers, the Foundation is currently divided into groups for socializing and the free universiity which is ran and "taught" by its own students.  Coming soon, we have Siggish Games, collective text-based games and interactive story-telling scenarios like "The Nemo Scenario", "The Oracle of Delphi", and others.

On the "FOUNDATION GROUPS" page you'll find links and descriptions to all of the groups that are a part of the Foundation.  We value socializing, playfulness, learning, diverse opinions, fun, logical argumentation, sharing, and discussion.  Different groups have different rules and focuses, so please read the group's description on the site and on Facebook before posting to that group.  Although the groups' admins are generally very relaxed, unless otherwise stated in the description no groups allow advertising, spamming, hate speech, ad hominem attacks, or pornography.  The admins are in charge of their individual groups and moderate accordingly.

Dan Sullivan is the director of Saving Communities and president of the Council of Georgist Organizations. For over 35 years he has been making presentations around the world on both the theory and practical applications of Georgism, has been instrumental in winning shifts to land value tax in Pittsburgh and other Western Pennsylvania cities, and has been featured in newspapers and major magazines, including *Fortune.*

"Sullivan has made several studies of the financial impact of higher land taxes on property owners, and speaks at meetings of Pittsburgh neighborhood and business groups to spread the incentive-tax doctrine. Such efforts are crucial. Few people, even among public officials and real estate executives, understand the nature of the tax and its economic ripples." - Gurney Breckenfeld, real estate editor, *Fortune*, August 8, 1983

  • NITE is an up-coming urban dark fantasy comic book series.

Carmine DePalo was a made man. He had it all. Money. Women. Access to vast resources. More homes than most Hollywood stars. All due to a dark, deadly secret. He was most prolific and deadly mercenary and assassin in history. Yet, with all his fortune and fame, he had found himself on a lonely road. He came to be an emotionally charged hothead with a death wish. Then he started to hear... voices. Haunting him.

These voices became more and more aggressive and ruined his life, as it was. When he was trying to terminate a mark. When he was in the middle of a meeting with the kingpins of the six boroughs. When he was having an entertaining night with the twins... Just when he was about to take a nose dive off of one of the city's oldest bridges, Evelyn Chianti appeared before him. This is strangely odd, because he killed her five years prior.

Even more odd because she was floating in mid air. She's a fine piece of work, for a dead woman. A nosey investigative reporter, the Capo De Nostra believed she learned too much, was saying too much and needed to be silenced. DePalo executed her. She gave him a proposition that he could not refuse. Carmine DePalo now works for the dead. If he wants to have any chance at a peaceful afterlife, he has to help his victims find theirs. NITE has plenty of work to do.

We discuss the economist Henry George in this episode. I used the phrase "strange economic creatures" while interviewing Dr. Rochon. It seems like a fitting title for this series. Nate, though he had heroically battled food poisoning by bad pupasa the night before, still mustered the strength to talk about ol' Hank. Below are resources assembled and commented upon by Mr. Blair. Enjoy.

The London Jubilee line was constructed at a cost of 3.5 billion GBP, but the public investment, paid for with public tax money increased the value of nearby land by 13 billion GBP.  If the community had captured the social value it created, the public investment would have paid for itself with 9.5 billion GBP left over.

Georgism gained popularity as a result of Progress and Poverty: An Inquiry into the Cause of Industrial Depressions and of Increase of Want with Increase of Wealth: The Remedy, 1879. There is a newer modernized and abridged version of P&P (The Drake Version), but if you are motivated, the original is also very good and not hard to read.
